all hail warren hellman, the eccentric billionaire financier who single handily funds the annual Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in golden gate park.
can't say enough about how sweet this event has become... three day event, tucked beautifully into the park with 5 stages, 70+ bands, and a million good vibes.
and, oh yeah, it's totally free because brother hellman picks up the whole tab.
"There is absolutely no smoking tolerated at this event... except for medicinal purposes."
after about 5 straight years of checking this event out, we've got it dialed. shopping cart packed like a rolling bar departs the house at 10am, and we wheel this puppy over to the park and set up camp at the Star stage. bojon flag in full effect as we take in the myriad of bands that grace the stage. blink twice, and it's 7pm... and you're stoked and ready to do it again.
head home.
repeat.
thrice.
top performances recorded by elvis costello, mickey hart's global drum project, and a "gypsy punk" band named gogol bordello.
here are a couple vids from the action.
